Sir Cadogan's portrait was forever challenging people to a fight, falling off its horse and behaving in a fairly unbalanced way, which was how the subject appeared to the poor wizard who had to paint him, while the portrait of the Fat Lady continued to indulge her love of good food, drink, and tip-top security long after her living model passed away. Private individuals might place their portrait in their home, while prominent figures in the magical community might get a portrait mounted on the wall of prestigious institutions such as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries and the British Ministry of Magic to commemorate them for some public service or accomplishment. The portrait would be able to use some of the subject's favourite phrases and imitate their general demeanour. This was usually done so that the portraitist could enchant the portrait to have some characteristics of the subject. Ī witch or wizard could go to a wizarding painter to have themselves painted. Magenta Comstock was an experimental painter whose subjects' eyes followed their viewers home. īimp, Oliver Cartwright, John Homme, Luxo Karuzos, Pablo Picasso and Leonardo Da Vinci were all expert painters. A portrait could also move from portrait to portrait, or else visit a portrait of them elsewhere in the world. The portrait would be able to use some of the subject's favourite phrases and imitate their general demeanour based on how the subject appeared to the painter however, they were limited in what they could say or do. The subject of a magical portrait was sentient due to enchantments placed on the portrait by the painter. Portraits were paintings made of certain individuals, namely witches and wizards. However, the degree to which they can interact with the people looking at them depends not on the skill of the painter, but on the power of the witch or wizard painted." - Description Did you know? The board game version of Quidditch called the “Snitch Snatcher!” was seen played by the Weasley twins in the Great Hall in one of the deleted scenes from the third film." Hogwarts portraits are able to talk and move around from picture to picture. This section features some brilliant illustrations of Quidditch posters and paraphernalia. I got excited seeing 16 pages dedicated to professional Quidditch and the 422nd Quidditch World Cup, for it is at the world cup where we first glimpse a bigger picture of the wizarding world, both in terms of geography as well as sports and their interpersonal connections. Not only does the book have a section on a Quidditch Equipment Crate and the Hogwarts trophies for the sport but also an entire 18-page section dedicated to Quidditch uniforms and fan wear featuring a cameo of Luna Lovegood’s Gryffindor lion hat. We get acquainted with the brooms belonging to each prominent character shown to possess one with a foldout page for the Weasley twins’ brooms and look at the fine details and embellishments added to the Firebolt to make it look as grand as it is. There is a broom index at the end of the book, a handy overview of all the major types of brooms crafted and owned by the wizarding world.Ī page on filming the Quidditch scenes in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” from “Harry Potter: The Broom Collection” A sequel to Harry Potter: The Wand Collection, the book follows a layout of an image or illustration on one page with relevant text about it on its facing page and that assuredly kept my attention glued to it the entire time. Are you an avid Quidditch fan? Do magical modes of transportation fascinate you? Are you curious about the variety of flying broomsticks featured in the Potter series? Do you want another cool addition to your collection of Harry Potter companion books? Then Harry Potter: The Broom Collection written by Jody Revenson and published by Insight Editions is the book for you, and it makes for a great companion to my copy of Quidditch Through The Ages.ĭesigned like a coffee table book, it has a beautiful hardcover in Slytherin green, its dimensions of 12 x 6 inches, and the slightly raised text and illustration of a broom on its cover caught my eye immediately.

She follows a trail of them to an old hut, where she finds a witch who claims she is nothing but a humble woodcarver because her last customers had some objections to her spells. After coming across a circle made out of stones, Merida again comes across Will O' the Wisps. Merida runs away on her horse in tears as Elinor quickly retrieves the bow from the fire in regret. Merida slashes the family tapestry in anger, then Elinor furiously throws her sword down aside and Merida's bow into the fireplace and glares at her, breaking Merida's heart. Merida and Elinor have a intense falling out, with Elinor claiming Merida will still have to choose a suitor. Despite Elinor's objections, she shoots all three bull's-eyes, even splitting Dingwall's son's arrow, supposedly winning the contest. Merida then steps forward with her bow and claims that she represents her clan as first-born and will be shooting to claim herself. The first two contestants lack skill, and Lord Dingwall's son wins by a fortunate mishap. Merida, hearing this, believes that the idea of the contestants being first-born is a loophole, so Merida chooses archery. She states that the challenge which the first-born of each clan would compete in would be decided by the fair maiden. After an argument, all three armies get into a brawl, which Elinor stops. One day, the Lords Macintosh, MacGuffin, and Dingwall arrive to present their sons for Merida's betrothal. Ten years later, despite Elinor's intention of having the sixteen-year-old Merida become a proper, royal, ladylike princess, Merida is determined to seek freedom and live her own life. The story cuts to around ten years later when the film learns that Fergus lost his left leg during the battle with Mor'du and has vowed to find Mor'du again and avenge his leg. Elinor and Merida flee, while Fergus and his men stay behind to battle the bear. After retrieving an arrow accidentally fired into the woods, where Merida sees some Will O' the Wisps, small blue fairies that are said to lead you to your fate, Merida's family is attacked by an ancient bear, Mor'du. Telling the story of the blacksmith caught our imagination, and the rest was history. Samuel Thomas Liltorp Johnson, Design Manager at the LEGO Group commented: “Designing the LEGO® Ideas Medieval Blacksmith set has been an exciting journey, taking us back hundreds of years to celebrate one of the true heroes of the Middle Ages. I hope fellow LEGO fans will enjoy traveling back in time sense the heat, sounds and smells from the forge and anvil and soak up the atmosphere of this classical creative craft as they build the set.” True to the era, the LEGO® Ideas Medieval Blacksmith set includes bold period design features from the timber framed walls to the gothic lattice windows, providing much intrigue and interest to fans of medieval architecture.Ĭlemens Fiedler commented: “I love building classical house designs and honouring all the great attention to detail you can recreate with LEGO elements – especially medieval architecture styles, colours and design. When thinking of medieval times, the focus is normally on the kings and queens, knights and ladies, their castles and the battles between good and evil, but this new medieval set has an unexpected twist showing the unsung hero of those epic battles and adventures - the humble Blacksmith. The LEGO Ideas® Medieval Blacksmith set harks back to a time when cottage industries and artisans were the cornerstone of society and was brought to life by LEGO designers Wes Talbott and Austin Carlson. LEGO superfan Clemens Fiedler originally submitted the concept to LEGO Ideas a LEGO initiative that takes new ideas that have been imagined and voted for by fans and turns them into reality. The new set is based on an original design by an avid LEGO builder, which achieved over 10,000 votes from LEGO fans worldwide – giving it the green light to go into production. Setting proper contrast or “gamma” is about adjusting the brightest brights and darkest darks. Often, you can use the Auto Adjust to give you general idea of what needs adjusting and then do your white balance adjustment manually to get the best results. ✓ Or, you can use the individual red, green, or blue color curves, or the RGB sliders under the Color Channels tab - whichever you prefer. ✓ If so, you can adjust the color wheels to bring the color vectors more toward the center of the Vectorscope. Is the color in the image bunched toward a certain direction on the color wheel, like blue or orange? Or, you can do it manually and make finer adjustments than the auto white balance. ✓ You can click the Auto Adjust button under White Balance in the Color Curves tab, and VEGAS Pro will adjust the curves for proper white balance. Even though you white balanced the camera when you shot the footage, the white balance may still be a little off, so correct that now. Or, maybe the camera didn’t have a proper white balance and you need to set it now. Here’s how to go through the steps in the Color Grading panel. Using the panel, you can take color correction and color grading in the usual order. First, color correct to get a natural baseline image, then color grade for artistic style and effect. Or, you can exit the Color Grading panel. You can export your color correction work as a LUT for use elsewhere in the project, or for use in any other project or in any other software which accepts LUTs in. You can reset all color controls back to default. You can add a Broadcast Colors filter if necessary for your project. You can add a Bézier mask to limit your correction to only a certain section or object in your image. You can bypass the color grading to see your image without the color work you’ve added. ✓ The third section has only one tab, Finishing, but it contains buttons which lead you to several different functions. As with the Input LUT tab, you can load any. The second tab brings up HSL sliders, and the third tab lets you load a Look LUT for your color grade. ✓ The second section contains color curves and also an automatic white balance button. Under the fourth tab, you’ll find slider controls for input and output, and also for saturation and overall brightness (exposure). Under the third, you’ll find slider controls for the red, green, and blue components of the same four color areas. Under the second, you have four color wheels for adjusting the entire image or for adjusting the Gamma, Gain, and Offset separately. Under the first tab, Input LUT, you have the option of loading a camera LUT if necessary, or any other LUT file in. ✓ The first section contains several tabs which lead to different types of inputs and controls. In the default configuration, the first section displays color wheels, the second displays color curves, and the third displays an array of buttons. The Color Grading panel contains three sections with various color controls. But keep in mind that if you previously closed the Video Scopes window while working in the Color Grading panel, it will not automatically reappear the next time you open the Color Grading panel, and you will have to open it manually under the View>Window drop-down menu. Note, too, that the Video Scopes window also opens. Click the Color Grading button on the timeline toolbar to open the Color Grading panel at the bottom of the main VEGAS Pro window, under the timeline. That belt took off the top half of his thumb. At Evergreen Speedway for the sixth-ever NASCAR Trucks race (he won the third one), the man with the day job racing for Hendrick Motorsports was fiddling with an alternator belt when a crew member fired up the engine. He ran 763 Cup Series events from 1983 to 2013, winning four times and also suffering a YouTube's worth of CGI-looking crashes, from a Talladega barrel roll in 1995 to a Daytona Duels crash in '98 that is still perhaps the hardest hit I've ever witnessed live.īut Schrader is on this list because of something else I've seen in person: the large section of thumb missing from his left hand. and that's just the events we know about. As of now, he's scheduled to run 57 events over 17 different series, including SRX Thursday Night Thunder on ESPN. The man turned 68 on May 29, and how did he celebrate? By finishing fourth in the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds A-Main at Indiana's Lawrenceburg Speedway. Why? Because he has long been the epitome of the greatest compliment that any driver can bestow upon a colleague: He's a racer's racer. If this were a list of the beloved racers among their peers, Schrader - that's what everyone calls him, just Schrader - would be on this list, too. Until his death in 2017, he bristled whenever NASCAR media members used any sort of war or battle metaphors when referring to the action on the racetrack. One day, while on patrol in a Jeep with only one other soldier, Moore flushed out and captured an entire unit of Nazis, four officers and 15 enlisted men, for which he earned the first of his two Bronze Stars. Over the next 17 months, he fought under General George Patton throughout the Big Push into Europe, including Cherbourg, the Battle of the Bulge, the liberation of Paris, and his way across Germany and into Czechoslovakia, where he caught three enemy bullets in the left leg. As his friends and fellow Army draftees died around him, Moore nearly drowned when he stepped into an underwater crater. On June 6, 1944, 19-year-old Moore hit Utah Beach as part of the Allies' D-Day invasion of Normandy, France. The kingpin of NASCAR's highly underrated Spartanburg, South Carolina, posse, Moore never drove in a Cup Series event but became a legendary owner and mechanic, winning 63 races and a pair of championships over nearly four decades and earning election to the NASCAR Hall of Fame's second-ever class in 2011. So, without further ado, adieu, ahem, here are our picks for NASCAR's five toughest drivers. Their bones and muscle fibers seemingly made from the same steel used to construct their racing machines. Those who could have just as easily fit walking the hallways of Avengers Tower as they did striding through the garage area at Darlington Raceway. I'm referring to the Paul Bunyans of stock car racing. Instead, we present our first fast five, and it is a list of the dudes who would most likely break me in half if we did not include them on some sort of NASCAR 75 list very early on. We drop the green flag over our world 600-ish NASCAR 75 greatest lists not with the greatest drivers (we will get to that later this fall) or greatest champions (yes, we'll be doing that one, too).
